Mailing letter/small parcel to USA

When I went to the post office to mail a letter and a small parcel to the USA, the clerk just wrote the price in the corner, stamped a red rectangle by the address and then stuck it in a drawer at her desk. Is that normal practice? What about stamps and stuff? She said it would take 2-3 months regardless of whether I sent it surface or airmail. Thanks.

It's normal for her to do that. She should give you a receipt at last as a prove. Due to the coronavirus, package sent by air is also delayed. But it usually takes about 30-60 days to be delivered by air. Surface will take a longer time.
