Hi Bailey,
I understand your frustration—it's very concerning when a package is marked as delivered but ends up in the wrong state. Based on your tracking information showing delivery in South Carolina instead of Minnesota, this appears to be a case of a misdelivered or misshipped package due to an address error, likely a wrong ZIP code.
Here is a step-by-step action plan to help you locate your package:
Step 1: Double-Check the Delivery Location (Immediate Action)
Before taking further steps, review your tracking details carefully on the USPS website. Sometimes packages are marked "delivered to mailbox" but may have been left in a different safe location . However, given the state discrepancy, this is less likely, but it's always good to confirm.
Step 2: Contact Your Local Post Office (First Line of Action)
This is the most effective step you can take. Since the address in your order was correct, the error likely occurred during USPS sorting or delivery .
What to do: Find the phone number or visit the post office that services your Minnesota address. You can locate it using the USPS Facility Locator on their website.
What to tell them: Explain that your tracking number shows a "delivered" status, but to an incorrect address in South Carolina. Provide them with your tracking number and confirm your correct Minnesota address. The local office can sometimes contact the other facility to initiate a retrieval .
Step 3: File an Official "Missing Mail" Search Request
If your local post office is unable to immediately resolve the issue, the next step is to file a search request. Because the package is marked as delivered, the standard Package Intercept service (which is for stopping a package before delivery) is no longer an option .
When to file: You can file a Missing Mail search request if it has been 7 or more days since the date the package was mailed .
How to file: Go to the official USPS Missing Mail application at missingmail.usps.com.
What you'll need:
The tracking number.
The sender's and recipient's addresses (your correct address in MN).
A detailed description of the contents (what is inside the package) and the packaging (e.g., "brown box, 12x10 inches") .
Filing this request officially alerts USPS that a package is missing and starts an investigation to try to locate and reroute it to the correct address .
Step 4: Contact the Sender/Shipper
Let the company or person who sent you the package know what happened. Provide them with the tracking details showing the delivery to South Carolina. They may be able to file a claim on their end, especially if the package was insured, or help you coordinate with USPS from the shipper's side .
Step 5: Contact USPS Customer Service
If the above steps don't yield results, you can escalate your complaint to USPS national customer service.
By phone: Call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) . You can say "Agent" to try to bypass the automated system.
Online: Use the "Email Us" form on the USPS website, selecting the topic for delivery issues .
When you call or email, make sure to have your tracking number and a clear summary of the situation (e.g., "Package with tracking #[number] was marked delivered to the wrong state; my correct address is in Minnesota, but it shows as delivered in South Carolina.").
