Hi
I sent a gift package to a relative in China (RN853055921GB), and it has been stuck at Wuhan customs since September 36. It seems that tax is being requested. This was a birthday gift, and it is not fair that the recipient should have to pay the tax.
"The recipient is a student, and paying the tax would be difficult for them. If possible, I would like to pay it myself." The combined cost of postage and tax seems to be higher than the value of the package itself, as I only paid £35 for postage. Could you please let me know how much the tax is, and why it wasn’t charged at the time of sending?

The tax is 96.51RMB for your package. The receiver can use WeChat to finish payment. Just search 'ems 邮件代理报关' from WeChat Mini Program（微信小程序). Then, click '缴纳税款' to finish payment.
You can also use WeChat to finish payment. Just download WeChatm sign up and then search 'ems 邮件代理报关' from WeChat Mini Program（微信小程序). Then click '帮他人缴税' to check how much you need to pay and finish payment. They support payment through Alipay, WeChat and bank card.
